Cerro Azul is a rural community located just south of the city of Tecate and surrounded by mountains. It has a population of 4 thousand distributed in three colonies and some ranches. The town is known for its brick manufacturing as well as for its pottery.
Life is rough in this community. Electricity and telephone are the only services available in this community. There is no Internet, running water system, sewage, or garbage collections system. Inhabitants normally buy water from water companies that provide it via water tank trucks and fill the plastic barrels the families have at home. There is an elementary school and a junior high school.
The main economic activity is brick manufacturing and pottery production, much of which is consumed in the state and in California. There are a few small businesses and a small agricultural activity. Another source of employment is the assembly plants located near the community.
There are 85 families with 308 participants registered with Corazón.
