We believe education is just as important for adults as for children Corazón offers several classes for our adults. Any family member, 16 and older, who is actively participating, is eligible to sign up for classes. Our classes include Computers, Sewing, Construction, Plumbing, Electrical, English, Health, Stained Glass, Child Abuse Prevention, Gardening and INEA, a federally funded program that allows adults to earn their GED equivalent. Most classes take place at our community center. Gardening takes place at each family's home garden and the community center gardens and Construction class takes place at various places around the village and at the Saturday project site.
The goals of these classes is not only are the adults better prepared to find a job, or better job, but they return to the communities and become the leaders. They lead classes and projects during the week and earn 1 1/2 hours of community service in the process. This help to make the community self-sustaining. Participants also report that they have earned or saved money by using the skills they have learned in the these classes.
