Comunidad: The Corazón Community

The comunidad Corazón program is not a handout to the poor; rather it is a proven method of assistance that allows the participants to help themselves. In the process, they help their neighbors and their community to grow and prosper.  The program is about families and the environment they exist in.  Corazón helps the poor by letting them earn their way out of poverty and into a brighter future.

The first step is a family’s desire to improve their way of life.  By performing community service on neighborhood projects, the Comunidad members can earn hours that they can exchange for many of their basic needs, such as food, clothing, tools, and building materials.  More importantly, they become eligible for scholarships for their children and job training for themselves.  In the process, they get to knowVolunteer Mexico their neighbors as they work side by side to better the community they seek to raise their children in. The result is a stronger family living in a better community with hope for a brighter future.

Building remains a cornerstone of the Corazón program.  In our build or repair a house-in-a-day projects, American groups can see firsthand the poverty that exists in Mexico and the obstacles that the participants must surmount.  But building is just your entry into the Comunidad Corazón program of helping those who have chosen to help themselves.  It is your opportunity to witness a true community of hope arising where only despair existed previously.

Finally, it is your group’s opportunity to contribute to this growth and share in the satisfaction of helping people who truly seek to build a better life for themselves and their families.

Where once only shacks existed, there are now sturdy new and repaired homes. Where once the poor lingered in despair seeking handouts, there are now families working together with hope for a brighter future. Through the Comunidad program, the donors and volunteers of Corazón have provided this hope.  It is our hope that you will sign up and join us in helping achieve a brighter future.
