Nuevo Milenio is a young community established in the mid 1990’s. It is located on a side of a hill on the west of Tijuana. This community is home to about 10 thousand people. Most of the housing is made of lumber and a minor number of mortar and clay. Among residents and neighboring colonies it is know as “Villa Corazón”, because of the large number of Corazón houses.
This colony has an elementary school and a junior high school. Electricity, water, sewage, garbage collection, telephone and Internet are available. As in many other colonies, many inhabitants connect themselves to the grid due to the high costs. There is small economic activity in the form of small grocery stores. Most inhabitants work in assembly plants (maquiladoras), small businesses and informal commercial activities.
A Corazón Community since the mid 90’s with 74 families and 221 participants.
