Valle de Las Palmas
Community Center

This sleepy rural community located on the southern end of the Tecate municipality is bustling in activity. Home to the production of the movie “Babel” and large agricultural ranches this little town is part of a major development project. The project 2020 calls for the creation of a self sustained satellite city. The project includes commerce, shopping, manufacturing, a university campus, and residential areas.

The community has different colonies with a diverse population from many parts of Mexico. There are many small, medium and large businesses. Agriculture is the main economic activity and olives one of the main products. The community is known for its beautiful surroundings. It currently has a population of 1,800. There are two elementary schools and one junior high school. Electricity and water are available. Other public services are not available through most of the town. There is no sewage or garbage collection. Inhabitants are used to burning their trash, despite the new garbage landfill.

Currently 55 families and 174 participants are registered in Corazón.
