Why a Waiver?

As a small, but growing non-profit organization, it is necessary for Corazón to take our next step toward professionalism.  In 2006, we are facing our first audit.  This assessment will show that we are a competent, established organization in compliance with the law, and will also give us the ability to apply for grants.  Part of our audit requires that we take some precautionary measures in order to ensure the continued wellbeing of our organization.  As you well know, there are countless voluntary tasks, performed by numerous volunteers on a daily basis.  Some of these duties are more susceptible to injury than others, but all are looked upon with the same level of caring and concern.  In order to ensure the future existence of our organization, we have implemented a “Waiver from Liability Agreement Form.”

The signing of this release benefits the public at large by enabling Corazón to provide services without the risks and sometimes overwhelming costs of litigation.  It would be prohibitively expensive for Corazón to provide services for volunteers and participants when factoring in the costs of litigation for injured volunteers.  Important programs would be endangered.

Thank you for all of the time you dedicate to our organization.  Each of your individual talents and contributions are recognized and greatly appreciated.  Without you there would be no Corazón.
